The impact of climate change on fishing

In the harsh weather conditions posed by climate change, fishermen have left their boats offshore because the temperatures have become very hot making fishing difficult.

The high rising sea levels as a cause of climate change makes fishing very difficult and sometimes fishermen do not go to sea at all as the sea levels keep rising. This makes it dangerous to be on sea.

Fishermen now come back from their shipping expeditions with empty boats and are forced to pull off their nets onto the shores.

At other times where there are fishes, these fishermen put their catch into barrels when on sea and offload them when they get onshore.

Women and men who depend solely on fish smoking and fish selling for survival gather up at the shores of the sea expectedly waiting for these fishermen to bring their catch.

Once the little catch is brought onto the shore, the fight for who gets the biggest share breaks out as everyone wants their share.

However, the fishes caught in these areas are merely fingers who cannot go deeper into the sea as the big ones have all migrated.

Climate has made fishing so difficult that now the big fishes are only gotten from cold stores and not the fishing areas.

Because of the harsh weather conditions posed by the climate, fishermen in places like Osu no longer travel out to sea, leaving their boats on the coast. Local kids have transformed the waterfront into a place for playing and swimming.

Let us all come together and help put an end to the effects of climate change on fishing. Thank you.
